Tips for Managing Hybrid Development Teams Effectively

Time to get back to the office? For many, working in person is a thing of the past. Others are itching to leave their home set-ups and get into a team workspace. Engineers can dictate where they want to work, whether in the comfort of their home or a sleek office. Amid today’s historically competitive hiring market , you can’t afford to lose out on talent by sticking to policies that don’t offer the flexibility engineers now expect.

Open Source Security: How Safe are Your Dependencies?

Is the next Log4J or OpenSSL disaster lurking in one of your open source dependencies? If you happened to miss out on those particular catastrophes, here’s a quick recap: Log4J is a popular logging library used in many enterprise applications to populate server logs. The Log4Shell vulnerability that was recently discovered in the Log4J library “ allows third-party servers to submit software code that can perform all kinds of actions on the targeted computer. This opens the door for nefarious activities such as stealing sensitive information, taking control of the targeted system, and slipping malicious content to other users communicating with the affected server .” Patches were quickly released to fix it, but not before malicious hackers conducted thousands of attempts to exploit it .

Dev Discussions: Ryan Carniato of SolidJS on Building “The Tesla of JavaScript UI Frameworks”

CoderPad’s Corbin Crutchley recently sat down with Ryan Carniato to discuss his work on the hyper-performant UI library, SolidJS – which Ryan dubs “ The Tesla of Javascript UI Frameworks ” for its efficiency and performance. It’s not often you come across a programmer who used to be a touring musician – but Ryan has experience both slinging code with SolidJS as well as some sweet tunes with his band Mr. Solid ( both named after a tasty Canadian treat ).

Developer Diaries: How We Built a Better Browser-Based IDE with Monaco

Integrated development environments (IDEs) are probably the most important tool we use as software developers and engineers. Using another tool, like a notepad or word processor, would be like trying to hammer a nail with your fist. That’s why our team just spent a good chunk of time working to improve the code editor in the pads that software engineering candidates use to complete technical assessments – but it was anything but an easy feat.

Introducing CoderPad Monaco, A Better Code Editor Experience

Developers are picky about their code editors. Everyone has a certain set of expectations around what they want their IDE to do. At CoderPad, we want to make sure that the interview experience is as smooth as possible, no matter which editor you use. Candidates should be able to perform at their best without distraction from an unfamiliar editor, just as they would when on the job. Interviewers likewise want to provide an excellent developer candidate experience.

Announcing CoderPad’s Latest ATS Integration with SmartRecruiters

CoderPad’s 2022 tech hiring survey showed that 35% of recruiters plan to hire more than 50 engineers this year alone. And when you’re in the middle of a hiring push and trying to assess a pool of promising software engineers, every moment counts. No one has time to toggle between different tools to find technical interview records, log in and out of different accounts, and ultimately waste precious mental energy with a messy, inefficient hiring funnel.

How We Merged a Global, Hybrid Engineering Team

Ahhh, how quickly things can change. Six months ago, I was working as the COO at CodinGame, overseeing a team of 16 engineers on a tightly-knit, in-person team in France. Today, after joining forces with CoderPad and becoming Global Head of Engineering, I’m in a very different situation: our engineering team is 40+ strong, distributed across 11 timezones, and features both in-person and fully-remote engs. Needless to say, this transition has kept me and the entire organization on our toes. Changing workflows, cross-cultural communication, and team disruptions can be difficult to handle—but through it all, we’ve learned to be better communicators and sharper engineers.

The Fastest Way to Create a Pad? Pad.new

You can now save yourself several clicks by instantly creating a blank pad in a new browser window. Just type in pad.new and you’ll go straight to our sandbox. And if you need a code sandbox to play around and test some ideas in a compiled programming language right in your browser, we have shortcuts for those too: These shortcuts are great for quickly prototyping since the alternative is often a tedious and convoluted local setup environment. No need for compiler flags here–it’s code-and-run right from the bat.
