The challenge: Many candidates, limited technical capacity
Validating technical skills used to mean pulling technical employees into the hiring process. A technical interview could take an hour per candidate — time that adds up quickly at SII Group's hiring volume.
And that model couldn't work everywhere. The company’s markets differ in size and in the technical profiles they hire for. SII Group needed one assessment standard that worked the same way whether a country hires ten developers a year or two hundred.
The result: a natural ceiling on how many candidates SII Group could confidently evaluate.
We needed a tool that could do the work people didn’t have time — or sometimes didn’t have the technical expertise — to do.
CoderPad changed that equation.
From an hour-long interview to minutes of recruiter time
Today, SII Group uses asynchronous CoderPad assessments early in the hiring process to identify which candidates have the skills to advance.
Sending an assessment and reviewing the results takes only minutes of a recruiter's time. Compared with an hour-long technical interview, SII Group estimates CoderPad Screen saves at least 45 minutes per candidate.
Multiply that by 600+ assessments every month, and the impact is significant.
SII Group can give far more candidates the opportunity to prove their skills without asking technical employees to interview every one of them. Deeper technical interviews can then be reserved for candidates who have already demonstrated the skills required for the role.
Build once, scale across countries
CoderPad also gives SII Group a technical hiring process it can easily take from one market to the next.
SII Group has built shared assessment banks for core technologies such as Java and React, with different tests for different skill levels. Recruiters across countries can use assessments that have already been built and validated rather than starting from scratch.
A recruiter joining a new or smaller market doesn't need to be a technical expert or build a new assessment. They can tap into the same tests and benchmarks already being used across SII Group.
And once a country is up and running, it requires very little ongoing support.
CoderPad is our most autonomous tool. Adoption required very little change management, which is what allowed us to open new markets quickly
That's what makes the model so scalable: SII Group can expand technical hiring into new markets without rebuilding its hiring process every time.
One global standard, built to flex
SII Group has standardized CoderPad as part of its technical hiring process. But not every role, market, or client needs exactly the same assessment.
Teams can start with SII Group's shared assessment bank, then adapt from there — creating role-specific tests, adding custom questions, tailoring candidate communications, or adjusting assessments for specific client requirements.
CoderPad is very flexible. It’s easy to use, while still allowing us to add our own touch.
SII Group gets one consistent approach to assessing technical skills, with enough flexibility to make it work across different markets and hiring needs.
Scale without sacrificing candidate experience
Assessing more candidates shouldn't mean putting them through a worse hiring experience.
SII Group regularly reviews candidate feedback, and candidates consistently highlight the short, engaging nature of its CoderPad assessments. They describe the experience as fun and appreciate that the questions feel relevant to what they're being hired to do.
Candidates tell us the assessment is short, relevant to the role, and respectful of their time. Several said it was the first test they’d taken that actually looked like the job.
That matters when you're assessing hundreds of people every month. SII Group can give more candidates a chance to show what they can do without adding unnecessary friction to the hiring process.
A credibility badge with clients
There's another benefit that's particularly important for SII Group: many of its clients use CoderPad too.
When SII Group tells a client that a candidate has already been assessed with the same platform they trust for their own technical hiring, it gives that skills signal additional credibility.
It can also make the handoff easier. SII Group can use a client's existing assessment, align testing with a client's requirements, and share assessment results across the relationship.
It creates a connection between our clients and us because everyone is using the same tool. It creates a sense of confidence.
For SII Group, CoderPad isn't just part of the recruiting process. It's another way to show clients that the technical talent they're being presented has been assessed against a bar they can trust.
Next: Technical assessment for the AI era
Now SII Group is evolving the process again.
Historically, its teams primarily used CoderPad Screen and treated signs of AI use during an assessment as something to flag. But developers are going to use AI in their day-to-day work. SII Group's hiring process needs to reflect that reality.
The question is shifting from “Did this candidate use AI?” to “How does this candidate use AI?”
Before, we were identifying when people were using AI. What we want now is to see how they are using it.
That's driving SII Group's next phase with CoderPad: pilot CoderPad Projects with the ambition of making it their default format.
Projects will let SII Group assess developers in a more realistic working environment — including how they use AI to solve problems — while keeping the scale and consistency it has built across 18 countries.
600+ assessments a month. 18 countries. 45 minutes saved per candidate. And now, a hiring process evolving for the way developers actually work today.
SII Group isn't just scaling technical hiring with CoderPad. It's raising the bar for what technical hiring looks like at global scale.
