How Anyscale Saves Over $200 Per 30 Minute Technical Interview with CoderPad

Anyscale, the company behind the open source Ray, is a fully-managed, enterprise-ready unified AI platform. With Anyscale, companies can build, deploy, and manage all their AI use cases, bringing transformational AI products to market faster. With the AI boom in full swing, Anyscale is experiencing rapid growth and seeking to fill 30+ engineering roles with highly qualified talent at any given time. Finding the right talent is competitive and challenging—Anyscale has a rigorous interviewing process to screen its candidates for technical acumen and overall fit.

The Challenge

Anyscale’s technical interviewing tools were buggy and unreliable, creating a poor candidate experience and wasting expensive engineering time.

Prior to switching to CoderPad, Anyscale was leveraging a combination of CoderByte and HackerRank for its technical interviewing process. But even with these tools, the engineering team still faced significant challenges in conducting technical interviews. The tools were buggy and unreliable, which caused frustration for both the candidate and interviewer. For example, if a candidate’s code triggered an infinite loop, terminal output—the primary means of validating results—would be disabled, preventing a meaningful evaluation of their solution. The talent acquisition team was faced with a flood of complaints from both parties.

The engineers hated it. Our Slack channel was flooded with requests to go back to CoderPad.

The Solution

Anyscale’s engineers asked to switch to CoderPad and consolidate all technical interviewing onto the CoderPad platform to create a seamless interviewer and candidate experience.

Since onboarding to CoderPad, Anyscale has noticed a meaningful and positive impact on the technical hiring process. The benefits of the CoderPad platform have touched all parties involved—including the engineering team, talent acquisition team, and even Anyscale candidates.

For engineering hiring managers and interviewers

  • Improved ability to evaluate each candidate’s technical skills faster and with more accuracy
  • Increased efficiencies in the interviewing process reduce load on the Anyscale engineering team, making more time for actual product development
  • A cleaner and more intuitive UI
  • Fewer bugs and reliability issues
  • Built in interviewer tools—like private notes and playback mode—that allow interviewers to be fully present and engaged during the interview

Since switching to CoderPad, I haven’t gotten one complaint from the engineering team. The tool just works for all of us so seamlessly.
