# Your Question Bank Is Leaking. Here’s the Fix.

July 31, 2026 3 Minute Read [Product Updates](https://coderpad.io/blog/product-updates/)

Every hiring team eventually hits the same wall: TA own raising the bar, don’t have the technical knowledge required to write questions that test for it. So teams are improvising, a shared question bank, a busy engineer’s spare 20 minutes, and last year’s assessment recycled one more time.

It feels fine butt isn’t. Recycled and leaked questions are easy for candidates to prepare for or just solve with AI. Static question banks can’t keep pace with how fast job requirements change. Generic questions don’t give you a real signal on how a candidate will perform in their real job. Every recycled question has a little less signal than the one before it.

That’s the problem we tackled [in our latest webinar](https://coderpad.io/events/ai-interview-designer-in-action/), and it’s the same problem keeping most hiring teams stuck evaluating for a job market that no longer exists.

## The six blockers we hear on every call

Ask ten hiring teams why their assessments haven’t changed in two years, and you’ll hear some version of the same six things:

- Limited technical expertise on the TA side
- No engineering bandwidth to spare on writing questions
- Not knowing what to ask in the first place
- Not knowing how to evaluate AI usage
- No standardization across teams or roles
- Plain resistance to touching something that “already works”

Individually, each one is an annoyance. Together, they’re why so many teams are still running algorithmic puzzles and screen-share coding tests in 2026, formats candidates have long since figured out how to game, and that never told you much about on-the-job performance to begin with.

## The demo: from job description to full technical test in minutes

Bayo, our Senior Manager of Product Marketing, ran a live demo starting from a real job description, a Fullstack/Visualization Software Engineer role. He used [AI Interview Designer](https://coderpad.io/features/ai-interview-designer/) to build a complete, front-end-focused technical test from scratch. Live. In minutes.

What came out the other end wasn’t a single trick question. It was a multi-file codebase, a working application, real test cases, grading criteria, and evaluation guidance that goes beyond “did the tests pass.” Critically, it also gave interviewers a framework for judging AI usage itself, not just whether a candidate used AI, but whether they validated its output or just shipped whatever it handed them.

That last part matters more than most hiring processes currently account for.

## Where hiring is actually headed

Realistic, [project-based evaluations](https://coderpad.io/features/projects/), auto-graded async projects paired with live project discussions, are replacing algorithmic puzzles and screen-share coding tests. Not because it’s trendy, but because they measure what actually predicts performance: can this person build a real product, explain their decisions, debug and review code (including AI-written code), and work with a team.

Teams still running last year’s puzzle-based screen sharing test aren’t just behind on format. They’re optimizing for a skill set, memorized algorithms, solo whiteboard performance, that has less and less to do with how engineers actually work now. Every cycle they wait, the gap between what they’re testing and what the job requires gets wider, and the candidates worth hiring get better at spotting a stale process from the first email.

## What’s next for AI Interview Designer

Project Creator is available today. A full AI-era collaborative interview builder is in alpha now. A complete hiring-flow designer, pre-screen through live interview, is coming later this year. On the roadmap: a Hiring Optimizer that uses your own hiring signals and feedback to surface which questions actually produce the best signal, not just which ones feel rigorous.

The bottom line: with AI Interview Designer, teams get an unlimited, custom question bank, the ability to write questions that specifically test for AI fluency, and back the dev hours it used to take to keep assessments fresh — all through a repeatable framework anyone on the team can run, not just your one engineer with a free afternoon.

## 2026 Product Recap: Technical Hiring Has Changed. We Built for What Comes Next.

AI has fundamentally changed how engineers work. It’s not a tool candidates might use anymore. It’s embedded in how code gets written, reviewed, and shipped every day. In many teams, the majority of code is already AI-assisted—and growing. Which leads to a clear conclusion for hiring teams: Trying to remove AI from the interview process […]
